Easy DIY Washi Tape Projects

I {heart} washi tape!  Like, seriously, I love it.  If you're going to have to tape something, why not use fancy tape instead of boring, clear Scotch tape?  My motto has always been "Why be boring?".

Every time I go to Michael's or Hobby Lobby, the washi tape calls out to me.  It's as though it's saying "Cheryl, I'm a sad, lonely roll of washi just looking for a good home.".  And just like stray animals, it jumps into my cart and I just don't have the heart to tell it no.  

My washi collections has grown exponentially over the last few months (thanks to those enablers on some Facebook groups I belong to) and I'm starting to get a good organization plan in place.

Because I have so much tape, I decided to see if I could find some uses other than decorating my planner or envelopes.  Here are some great ideas I found:

Honey, Have you seen the remote?

Since my bout with meningitis in January, my memory has been less than stellar.  I'm told the after effects of the virus are similar to those of a traumatic brain injury.  While I am getting better with time - and believe that God healed me - I am not fully back to normal yet.  One of the worst things I do with this crazy memory of mine is carry stuff into other rooms with me, put it down, then forget about it until I need it again.  I know some people do this without a "brain injury", but I'm telling ya, I do it ALOT!

We look for our remotes regularly.

Like almost daily.

Because I've carried them to another room absentmindedly.

The strangest place we've found one is on the shelf where we keep our towels in the back bathroom.  I was folding towels one day on my couch, watching TV.  I picked up the towels to put away and apparently had the remote in my hand.  I put it on the shelf under the towels.  Fortunately, since I've done this so much lately, we now know to retrace my steps and we found it in a mere 25 minutes.

I'd seen this on Pinterest a while back and had it on my to do list.  I grabbed some vinyl scraps and did this:

I just got a TV for my craft room, thus prompting me to move this project to the top of my list.  I cannot imagine how much I could mix up 3 remotes instead of 2!

Of course, I used pink vinyl to match the pink theme of my craft room.  I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut it.  I tried measuring the remotes, but as you can see by how large the letters are, I didn't plan too well.  I decided even though they're HUGE, I am not re-cutting them.  

The font I used was Caprica Script.  You can download it HERE.

I used painter's tape as my transfer tape to put them on.  It took a whopping 5 minutes and this project was done!

Last Minute Mother's Day Gifts

Happy Friday!  Did anyone else lose track of time and realize that Mother's Day is just two days away???  I have been dealing with a few memory issues since my little bout with meningitis in January and it seems like I remember things one day, then forget them for three or four days.  Earlier in the week, I kept thinking I needed to work on Mother's Day stuff, then I forgot and just remembered again last night.

Making Glue Dots

I'm excited today to share with you my adventures in making glue dots.  I posted a video a few weeks ago showing how to make your own glue dots using Aleene's Tack-It Over & Over Glue.  I purchased mine at Michael's, but you can also find it online for a reasonable price at Amazon.  Here's what I did...

Instead of working at my desk, I decided to pull out a TV tray and work there.  It made it much easier to move the glue dots out of the way while they dried.  I used waxed paper, glue and my trimmer.  

I pulled off a fairly long piece of waxed paper.  I decided to put my glue dots on strips, so I cut waxed paper strips 2.5" wide.  The waxed paper cut beautifully using my paper trimmer.  Once I had several long strips, I folded each in half and laid them out on my tray.  

I then started squeezing out glue dots like a mad woman!  I made some big and some small, just to see what I like best.  I put them fairly close together so I could fit quite a few on each piece of paper.

I made enough to fill the entire tray.  I was watching a movie (The Proposal....Love it!) while I made them so it seemed like it went pretty quick.  I moved the tray out of the way and set it aside for them to dry.

I let them dry for about 24 hours.  As you can see above, they dry almost clear.

Remember earlier when I said to fold your waxed paper in half?  I only put dots on half of the sheet so I could fold the other half over on top.  This will keep your glue dots from sticking to each other while you store them.

Here are all my lovely dots!  I made 14 sheets of dots with approximately 84 dots on each sheet.  That gives me approximately 1176 glue dots!  What's fabulous is I didn't even use half the bottle to do this.  I would say you could easily get 4000-5000 dots from one bottle of glue.  Talk about saving money!  Woohoo!!

I am totally loving these babies!  They are very sticky and have worked wonderfully for me so far.  Have any of you tried them yet?  I'd love to hear about your experience if you have.
